The Quebec Professionnal Art Galleries Association - The Reference Network
Professional Code of Conduct
- At all times, to encourage and promote a positive attitude with all AGAPQ gallery members and the artist whom they represent;
- To conform to the methods and criterias established by the Association to obtain accurate and fair market appraisals of artwork;
- To conform to all provincial and federal laws and all international agreements that Québec and Canada have established with regards to the export and import of cultural property;
- To collaborate fully with the proper authorities in order to eliminate professional misconduct in the art market;
- Each members must, to the greatest degree possible, verify the authenticity of any artwork offered for sale;
- To ensure that all artworks exhibited are described and labelled clearly;
- To collaborate with the board of directors of AGAPQ when new guidelines relating to professional conduct are established. The professional conduct review comittee will include the association’s president and the two vice-presidents except in the event of a conflict of interest, wherein another member of the board of directors will be appointed ;
- To place at the disposal of the artist, upon request and within a responsable time period, a financial or consigment statement with regards to a consigned artwork;
- The gallery agrees to pay the artist or client when an artwork is sold and the funds are received from the purchaser
- At no time, with respect for the artists, shall any gallery member liquidate or offer for sale works of art at a greatly reduced cost.
